The Ladies Section
A very warm welcome to the Salisbury & South Wilts Golf Club Ladies' Section.
Salisbury & South Wilts Golf Club currently has over 80 active playing members in the Ladies' Section of all ages and handicaps who enjoy playing golf on our 2 challenging courses - the Cathedral & the Bibury. New members will be made to feel at home and amongst friends whether beginners or experienced golfers.
Right from the Club's formation in 1888, South Wilts Golf Club has welcomed lady golfers, and on the 8th December 1900 the Ladies' Section was formed with a membership of seven. The start of the Ladies' section, its growth and prosperity, can be directly attributed to the energy of Miss Vera Pinckney who was Lady Captain no less than 17 times between 1900 and 1924. The first Lady Captain was a Miss Maud Miles who was appointed at a meeting of the Ladies Section on Thursday 29th November 1900.
Competitions are held regularly throughout the year and are usually held on Tuesdays and Thursdays and also at the weekend for those who cannot play during the week. The competitions comprise of Medals and Stableford competitions.
The main competition of the year is the Ladies Club Championship. This is a 36 hole competition held over 2 days open to all lady members with an active handicap.
Ladies' afternoons are usually held on the first Monday in the month, teeing off at 12 noon. We play nine holes followed by tea. This is a good opportunity to meet other lady members and will also help new members by playing with experienced ladies, to understand the etiquette and rules of golf.
Also, as a means to encourage newer members to play and perhaps improve their game, there are a number of ladies available to arrange a game with. Their names are on a list in the Ladies locker room. These games are often played on the Bibury Course, where a more relaxed environment may be enjoyed.
Whatever your experience; come and join us for some social golf and good company.
